Prof. Dr. Bhagwan Singh Chaudhary is visiting the Central Department of Environmental Science, Tribhuvan University on 7 November 2022. He will be delivering a talk on 'Geospatial technology for disaster management' at 12:00 in the CDES Conference Room.
Dr. Bhagwan Singh Chaudhary is currently working as a Professor at the Department of Geophysics, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, Haryana, India. He was Chairman of the Department of Geophysics and the Postgraduate Board of Studies in Geophysics, Kurukshetra University from Dec. 23, 2017 to Dec. 22, 2020; and also held the position of Registrar of Kurukshetra University from June to Nov. 2020. He worked as the founder Registrar of Chaudhary Bansi Lal University, Bhiwani from Aug. 2014 to Dec. 2017. A Ph.D. in Science in Integrated land and water resources management from the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur, and an M. Tech. (Applied Geophysics) from Kurukshetra University, Prof. Chaudhary started his career as a Scientist at Haryana Space Application Centre, Hisar in 1990 and worked till 2004. He has worked on many research and development projects sponsored by govt. /industry-sponsored projects in the field of Geospatial technology. Prof. Chaudhary was awarded a DAAD fellowship at the University of Freiburg, Germany from 1997-1999. He got the best paper award at the 18th ISPRS Conference in Vienna, Austria 1996. He is working in the domain of Geospatial technology for natural resources for about 30 years and has published more than 70 research papers in various national and international journals/ conferences.
He has worked in various teaching positions at Kurukshetra University since 2004 and supervised 10 PhDs. He is presently supervising 6 research scholars for Ph.D. research. He is an Executive Member of the Indian National Committee (INC) of the International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH) and a fellow of the Indian Water Resources Society, the South Asian Association of Economic Geologists, and the Society of Earth Scientists, and life member of a dozen National/ International scientific societies/ Academic associations. He is a member of the Editorial Board/ Reviewer of more than a dozen prestigious National/ International journals. He has co-edited 3 books entitled “Applications and Challenges of Geospatial Technology: Potential and Future Trends” published in 2018; “Remote Sensing and GIScience: Challenges; Future Directions” published in 2020 and Geostatistics and “Geospatial Technologies for Groundwater Resources in India” 2021 from Springer Publishers. He has visited many countries like the USA, UK, Austria, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Poland, China, South Africa, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal (3 times), and Thailand for various academic/ scientific assignments and conferences. He is presently Executive Editor of INC of IAH online Journal “E-journal of Geohydrology”. He is a member, PGBOS, Department of Geophysics, K.U. Kurukshetra and member of BOS, Academic Council, Planning Board, Court, and Governing boards of many prestigious universities and Autonomous Colleges throughout India.
