- All the HAWs designated as Ramsar sites are located within national park bound-aries and hence protected under various national acts within the jurisdiction of Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation, Government of Nepal. Though they became party to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands in 1988, the much needed Nepal National Wetland Policy was formulated and approved in the year 2003, and this provides a framework and direction for the conservation and sustainable utilization of all the wetlands in Nepal.
